Salisbury Maryland, founded in 1732 and incorporated in 1854, is the largest city on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and the county seat of Wicomico County. Salisbury is located at the head of the Wicomico River, the navigable waterway that leads to the Chesapeake Bay.
It is a central spot on the lower Eastern Shore just a half hour west of Ocean City and two hours south of Baltimore in the heart of the Delmarva Peninsula. Salisbury has two growing institutions of higher learning Salisbury University and Wor-Wic Community College. Salisbury also features Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Perdue Farms, Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, Poplar Hill Mansion (owned by the City since 1974), Chipman Cultural Center, Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art and the Salisbury Zoological Park, recognized as one of the best small zoos in America.
